Check the engine when the pallet arrives

What to look at before you sign for a BMW engine pallet: the wrap, the stamp, the sump and the photos to take if something is wrong.

An engine ready to leave the Hamburg workshop

The engine arrives drained, film-wrapped and strapped to a heat-treated pallet. The useful inspection takes ten minutes and it has to happen before the driver leaves. A signature with no note makes a damage claim slower.

Before you sign

Walk around the pallet. Torn film, a strap that has cut into a sump, or a turbo that has punched through the wrap is a note on the paperwork and a set of photos. You do not need to unstrap the whole engine in the rain. You do need to see that the block you ordered is the block on the wood.

Have a pallet truck or a crane ready. Do not slide an engine off a truck by hand. The kerb delivery does not include a forklift.

Match it to the listing

Find the stamp and compare it with the code in the listing and with the photo we sent before dispatch. Check the oil pan shape if you ordered an xDrive unit. Check that the turbo, the intake and the injectors you were shown are still on the engine. Small sensors get wrapped separately. They should be in the pallet, not missing.

If something is wrong

Write the damage on the carrier's sheet, photograph the wrap and the part, and email autowerkeengines@gmail.com the same day with the order number. If the wrong engine was sent, or it was damaged in transit, we pay the return and put it right. Waiting a week to mention a cracked sump makes that harder to prove.

Shipping is 249 € per order. Inside the EU there is no import duty. Outside the EU the receiver pays local duty and VAT.

Photos to keep

Take one photo of the pallet before the wrap is cut, one of the stamp, and one of the sump. Store them with the invoice. They take a minute and they are the file you need if a sensor is missing or the pan is cracked.

Do not run the engine on the pallet. It is drained, the openings were sealed for a reason, and a dry start is how a good engine gets hurt in the yard. Fit it, fill it, then start it.

The yard is at Andreas Meyer Straße 38, 22113 Hamburg. Call or WhatsApp +49 15510 030835, or email autowerkeengines@gmail.com, Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 16:00 CET. Shipping is 249 € per order. We are an independent seller, not BMW AG.
